The Customs, Excise and Service Tax Appellate Tribunal* (CESTAT) was formerly known as Customs, Excise & Gold (Control) Appellate Tribunal was constituted on the 11th October 1982, and will be completing 25 years of its existence shortly. During this period procedure for dealing with various aspects of the Tribunal's work have been evolved. The National Stock Exchange of India Limited has genesis in the report of the High Powered Study Group on Establishment of New Stock Exchanges, which recommended promotion of a National Stock Exchange by financial institutions (FIs) to provide access to investors from all across the country on an equal footing.
